Mobile devices are set for a big involvement in online usage, search and advertising revenue over the next five years, however Google has recently sent out to us and other Adwords advertisers that they are introducing Click-to-Call methods in Ads on mobile devices.
Google trialled this on search a few years ago but it never took off, cancelling the program in 2007. To that end Google hope that with the rise in mobile phone search usage this is a much more suited application for it to take off. Users will be able to click adverts which link them straight in to a phone call instead of the traditional way of directing traffic to a website. The advertiser will be still be charged for the click whether it goes through to the website or to a phone call, and the end user will still have to pay for the call, unfortunately!
Google already do have a click to call format of sorts for smartphones in organic local listings, where you click the number and it will direct you straight to the call, however this is integrating the system into the sponsored links. Google simply want phone numbers to appear in adverts and charge advertisers for the following calls.
For Click Consult we see this as a good move. Many businesses even advertising on sponsored links on traditional search rely heavily on phone calls for leads and can’t rely on website leads because of the complexity of their business model. Some industries that initially spring to mind are Skip hire companies, legal advice companies and even companies that offer film crew services. Companies doing skip hire and film crew would immediately benefit from this advertising on mobile devices and would be grateful for the “warm leads”.
