Google has made moves into the application market with the launch of Google Apps Marketplace. The Google Apps Marketplace provides products and services specifically created for users of Google. The marketplace features 50 apps from companies and initially will focus on more business lead solutions; however, there are plans to move into the consumer market in the near future.
This move further signals Google’s intent to fight with Microsoft and Apple for a piece of this market.
There have been companies on Google Apps for a while but the system hasn’t been the most user friendly for developers to create on or users to interact with. This new App store hopes to change this by having a one stop shop for applications, central management areas, “universal navigation,” data security, and straight forward log in.
Google’s moves in this market are seen as a threat to current desktop applications and while this may not be a hammer blow in cutting into their domination, it may only be a matter of time before a bigger dent is made.
