Geotargetting for SEO
Filed under: About SEO by Daniel Taylor on March 20th, 2008 @ 5:05 pm
Search engine optimisation can be tailored to meet the requirements of specific geographical regions. For example, different areas of a website can be targetted to serve traffic coming from different parts of the world. Thjis is known as geotargetting.
Domains that are country specific, such as .uk or .th domains, can be used to rank highly in Google search results for that country. For example, a domain ending with .th would have a better chance of ranking for a query coming from Thailand, than from a query coming from the UK. Similarly, a domain with a .uk extension would rank better in the United Kingdom than it would in Thailand.
Geotargetting is a highly effective method for deriving targetted, converting search engine traffic. Selling products to a specific part of the world is important for certain products, such as manga comics to Japanese audience, can be highly effective if the website is geotargetted.
Geotargetted SEO can be accomplished by domain name selection as well as effective copywriting and content management. Search engines can detect text relevant to a country’s searches, thereby helping your webpages rank highly in search results for that country.
