Welcome to part two of my Top 8 SEO slipups for all you DIY SEO’s. These are the most common mistakes made by people trying to do there own SEO. So far we’ve covered rented links, no relevant content, no keyword research and using graphics for headings instead of text.
In this blog I am going to give the next four most popular slip ups on my list, so let’s start.
5) Leaking page rank from your site: Many websites have external links on there site and is essentially a good thing, but not when the links aren’t created properly. This will cause your site to leak page rank which should be kept for your internal page. What am I talking about? Well no-follow of course. Imagine your page is a boat and every external link is a hole leaking out page rank that could be passed to the other pages of your site. To block these holes you need to attach a no-follow to your external link, this will stop your page rank from leaking out and when you get more experience you can sculpt your site internally using these links. So pages which aren’t useful to have in the search result don’t waste your page rank.
6) Having a flash site: Yes it may look pretty, but a website is no good unless someone sees it, and for SEO purposes this is the worst thing you can do. If you insist in having a flash site make sure you have a HTML version as well
7) Having the same meta description on every page of your site is also a problem, each page should be unique and so should your meta title and keywords.
8 ) Last but not least is not employing an expert to do your SEO, and I am not kidding here, the internet is growing all the time and no matter what market place you’re in this is the future, so the sooner you start the sooner you can reap the rewards.
