Why have SEO?
Filed under: About SEO by Nick on February 7th, 2008 @ 4:05 pm
If you own a website and only receive a trickle of visitors day to day, then Search Engine Optimisation is a route one method to boost traffic and therefore conversions. There are literally billions of sites on billions of subjects on the World Wide Web, so understandably you have to make your site stand out amongst the rest. This is why Search Engine Optimisation was invented, a science developed by webmasters to dominate search results for specific queries.
When you appear in the major search engines for words relating to your website subject (keywords), the likelihood of gaining a click through is increased ten fold, following this assuring your site is clearly navigable then conversions, sales, enquiries are likely to follow.
It has been proven that only 12% of viewers actually go past the 1st SERP (Search Engine Results Page) and therefore only 10 websites or less ever get noticed, accentuating the importance of being one of those 10. Ever since Google became the force it is today, web masters and SEO’s having been trying to double guess its complex algorithms to get their site on the first page.
There are also other benefits to achieving top listings. When someone is searching for a product that you sell or relates to your site, and they are continually being exposed to your company name, then they are more likely to trust you, or go straight to you in future. Excellent brand building.
SEO does not come cheap however, and there are many other options to market a web based company, PPC and Affiliate Marketing are other popular methods that will guarantee exposure, but the beauty of SEO is it’s an investment, any amount of money spent will not be wasted, and if you’ve budgeted enough to get top listings you can afford to reduce it rapidly once you get there.
