Search engine optimisation is important for all companies, no matter how big or how small they are or how mighty they perceive themselves to be. A common phenomenon on the internet is that some of the larger companies, the giants of their industries, don’t do SEO. They neglect SEO and they neglect web design and function for their customers.

Just as common a phenomenon is the negligence of business blogs in many companies. Blogs are very important, very powerful and quite in demand. The blogosphere has not gained world domination for no good reason. Everybody loves them and everybody wants a blog, shouldn’t you?

Updates, feedback and post optimization

Blogs are a great way to let the world know of developments, to keep people interested in your business and to build some public relations with your target market. The problem is that many businesses neglect to keep adding to their blogs. A stale blog is not better than having no blog at all, they are on par. Keep it fresh and keep it interesting. Ask your customers and readers for their feedback about your blog posts. Not only does this build good PR, but it also helps with your traffic and your search results rankings.

A blog is not a good one unless it is optimized. That means SEO tactics for your blog and optimization for your readers. Keep them captivated and attract the engine crawlers with keyword usage. Stick to one topic per post and use a keyword or key phrase repeatedly throughout the post. But beware, do not force your keywords or indulge in keyword stuffing.

Video can kill

Actually, the lack thereof can be just as bad. Adding video to your blog is a great idea as long as you put effort into them and they are relevant to your blog. Videos offer your blog some variety and that is what people like. You can optimize your videos too. Everything done in aid of SEO will ultimately help your traffic volume and conversion to sale rates.

Social bookmarking and linking

The web is ultimately a social platform, which is what it has been turned into. It is a place to get your views out, express yourself and tell the world who you are and what you are about. This can work to your business’s advantage if you use the right SEO tactics. Social bookmarking tools allow you to offer your reader the opportunity to share your blog. This is a fantastic way to get your name out there so make social bookmarking as easy as possible.

People will tell others about your blog, their friends will tell friends of their own and so on and so forth. This is how you build a good web presence in online social communities and thus increase traffic. Linking is another important SEO method.

External links to your pages act as advertisements and internal links from your site to other pages makes your website more valuable to visitors. Why? Simply because it has more to offer them. You can offer them more information, easy access to credible websites and more variety this way.
