Two examples of social media and their effectiveness in SEO

Filed under: Social Networking — Daniel Taylor @ 5:25 pm

Stumble upon

If you don’t know what this is where have you been living for the last year? Stumble upon is a social media site that installs a toolbar within you browser, you then select your category of interest and then press the green Stumble button on your toolbar this then take you to a random site on the topic you have selected. User have the ability to vote thing up or down which reflects the amount of times it is randomly brought up in the select categories all the link are no follows so it can’t benefit your page rank so from a SEO point of view it not very useful. Although if you look at it from a internet marketiing point of view it can bring you a lot of direct traffic to your site for not a lot of work I believe it is best used with in hobby related ecommerce sites. One bit of advice on add your index page and not the whole site this is missing the point of it and will eventually get your site banned from Stumble upon

Work.com

Work.com is a free article submission web site for business question and answer, you register informing them your business specialises and then you can begin writing your articles with the appropriate links, work.com does pass page rank and is free to join although to get a decent page rank you have to spend a lot of time promoting your self on work.com and around the web.

Other social media site that pass page rank

www.indianpad.com
www.furl.net
www.killerstartups.com
www.dzone.com
www.care2.com/news/
www.zimbio.com
www.clipmarks.com
I said too much already

In conclusion social media can be very useful SEO tool but require a lot of knowledge and effort and has many pitfalls IE they don’t pass page rank or don’t get to your target audience. You can easy waste your time and my recommend is to let the expert handle it clicks here for that expert.

Making the Most of your blogs in terms of SEO

Filed under: Social Networking — Daniel Taylor @ 2:36 pm

In the world of SEO there are two techniques which are considered to have higher importance than any other. They are in-bound linking and content. If you read many SEO blogs they will tell you when it comes to search engine optimisation “content is king” and their blog itself is a testament to that statement.

Blogs are the best way to keep your content fresh but why is this so important? Well look at it from a user point of view, a page written about an iPhone two years ago has little value to search engine users compared to an article written last week. In two years the whole development process could have changed with new features being added with the growth of technology to the search engine algorithms. Taking this in to account fresh content on your site is important, and with many free web blog applications and plug-ins available blogs are the way to do it.

So what should you consider when writing your blog content? Well you should know about keywords by now other wise read my article Keywords Explained. Your article should display a nice percentage of your chosen keyword. Next you should be informative, helpful and should be useful to people who read it. All to often I see articles that are just done for SEO purposes, and ok they work to some degree but if your articles are good you can build up a following on social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Sphinn etc. Your article will then be read by thousands if not millions and if they are good these reads will return time and time again.

It has to be said this is not always the case and it takes some real effort in article writing and promotion to crack the social bookmarking sites, but the amount of traffic retuned can be well worth it. My next tip is to have link within your blog to relate to parts of your site, this gets the Google link juices flowing. Four or five links is a good number.

My final tip for blogging is to treat them all as another page of the site, not forgetting the Meta data and title tags and please change this on ever blog page, as not to create duplicate content. For more on getting started with blogs check out blogs-a-great-marketing-technique-for-seo.
