It is an extremely simplified view of search engine optimisation but gives a basic overview of what is important in any search engine optimisation campaign; keyword optimised content and high quality, relevant links. Search engines, in actual fact, consider over one hundred different factors when they rank a web page so they clearly consider more than just keyword density and the number of links a web page has attracted. The formula does, however, provide a good basis for search engine optimisation success.

What Is Good Content

Creating good content isn’t as easy as it sounds and before you begin writing and adding website content you should first conduct keyword research in order to generate a list of the most beneficial keywords for your SEO campaign. This research should consider how well targeted each keyword is, how competitive they are, and how much traffic they will generate as well as their relevancy and performance.

Search Engine Optimisation Keyword Research

Search Engine Optimisation keyword research will often benefit from some competitor site analysis. Spying on the websites of your main competitors may seem underhanded but those sites at the very top of the results have almost certainly done the very same thing in order to get where they are. Competitor site analysis will not only help indicate some of the keywords you may want to target but can also provide details of resources to generate links and much more.

Semantically Related Search Engine Optimisation Keywords

Good Search Engine Optimisation website content is keyword optimised and natural. As well as using a handful of the keywords you discovered during the keyword research process you might consider adding semantically or topically related keywords to pages in order to help with semantic indexing. Semantic indexing is a form of indexing documents according to topics and topically relevant groups of keywords rather than by a single keyword so a website can perform better if its Search Engine Optimisation includes semantic keywords.

Appealing Content Makes Good Linkbait

Keyword rich content should also be appealing to visitors, offer genuine information, and be written so that it is primarily appealing to visitors. An ongoing and major aspect of SEO is the building of high quality and relevant links and by offering such high quality content you can attract links naturally from other websites based on the same topic as your own site. However, it is likely that you will need to use more artificial methods to at least start the link building process. There are many ways of building links to web pages including article marketing and directory submissions. The biggest challenge in SEO is finding regular, new sources of links for a web page.

SEO And Your Website

SEO generates targeted, driven website visitors and is considered to be the least expensive but most beneficial source of online traffic by many Webmasters and marketers. While it is an incredibly simplistic and generalised view of Search Engine Optimisation, the addition of good quality content and the building of links are the two primary considerations in any SEO campaign.

Search Engine Optimising Flash Content

Most SEO articles concentrate on how to optimise static, text based web pages
so that they appear high up the search rankings. However, a page does not have
to be constructed entirely from HTML and other static textual content in order
to rank well in search engines. The problem with flash based websites, from
the perspective of the site owner or the SEO, is that the content within flash
script can not be read by the search engines and, therefore, you are unlikely
to yield any positive SEO results from the usual methods of on page optimisation.

Flash Sites

Entire websites that are constructed entirely from Flash cause the greatest
problems for the SEO. These sites have little indexable content and because
spiders struggle to index the content in a Flash file this means that the pages
will essentially look empty. Empty pages do not receive good rankings from
search engines and you may struggle to get a Flash site indexed at all unless
you implement some form of workaround or offer an alternative version.

Meta Data

Meta data includes the addition of important HTML tags to each page. One can
add a keywords field, description field, and title field among others and this
provides search engines with an effective means of at least recognising the
page. Individual flash movie files have their own tags that should be completed
and included as well and this is important for sites that use both flash and
textual content.

Important Design Considerations

Design is a major element. Textual content should be added to virtually every
page to help search engines recognise the page and subsequently index it. The
main page content will set the scene and tell the story while the flash content,
which can be placed as prominently as required, will basically be used as supporting
content in the eyes of the search engines. Users still gain the benefit of
good flash design and you still gain the SEO advantages that high quality flash
content offers.

SEO And Links

Links are vital in SEO, especially when optimising a flash page. Because you
have less textual content to rely on, this places even greater weight on inbound
links. Fortunately, flash videos and flash animations can be used to generate
a lot of natural links to your page and create a buzz on various online communities.
Therefore, the flash content on your pages can be used to directly improve
your link profile and help rank that page higher in search engine results.

Flash Site Optimisation

There’s no denying the appeal of flash animation and flash graphics. Human
visitors love to be entertained and offering video helps to tell a story in
a more entertaining fashion. Viral flash can also help create a buzz for your
website and generate many links to your most important pages therefore improving
SEO results. Care needs to be taken when adding any flash based elements to
a website and using a developer that understands the importance of SEO to flash
sites will go a long way in improving search results.
