Keyword Density In SEO – How To Get It Right

The love – hate relationship between SEO’s and Keywords

The manner in which keyword density is used on a website has changed dramatically over the years. During the early stages of Internet marketing bombarding the site with relevant keywords seem to be the only way to get the desired ranking on the SEO.

With the phenomenal growth of Internet marketing came sophisticated technology that enabled search engines to be much more selective when it came to rank placements. Web consultants are continuously battling to get the perfect combination of wording as to ensure a Good Ranking position.

Using too little relevant keywords may not get the site near the top 20 ranking and using too many might get you penalized for spamming. Overuse may also lead to the website being altogether banned by the SEO. The challenge all website marketers face is to achieve the ideal combination that will place the company in a good position and turn it into a money making machine.

Discovering the ideal ratio of keyword density

Keyword density can at best be described as the ratio between the relevant keywords used on a website article compared to the total amount of words used. If for instance 5 keywords are used in an article containing 100 words the ratio would be 5%. Web marketers have gone to all lengths to unlock the combination that will work magic for all sites.

There are some that swear by a ratio of between 3-5% while others will go as high as 10%. Successful use of Keyword Density seems to vary for quite a number of reasons.
There are marketers whose ideal approach seems to be that there is no fixed ratio for successful keyword use. As there are many more aspects about marketing than just keyword ratio, a simplistic or natural approach could be as effective.

Here the emphasis is using the relevant words or phrases in a manner that is appealing to the reader as well as catching his or her attention. The ultimate objective of marketing is of course to obtain the highest number of conversions through skilled advertising.

Keyword density seems to have lost its relevancy when it is compared to all the other aspects of successful marketing. On the other hand there are many high ranking and thriving websites whose content overflows with relevant keywords. The key approach of these successful websites seems to be in the way the content is portrayed. SEO’s are attracted by good content displayed in a logical and natural manner.

Tips for using keyword density successfully

Start off by using the most relevant keyword in the title. This will instantly attract the attention of the SEO. Using the keyword at the beginning of a sentence also helps.

Bear in mind that an easy, flowing content is much more appealing to the SEO and care should be taken in how and where the keywords are used. Keywords may also be strategically placed on the website to draw the attention of the SEO.
