Finding Relevant SEO Link Affiliates

SEO link affiliates are links set up leading traffic from one website to another. When these links are set up in a manner that is optimized for search engines they are coined ‘SEO links’.

The benefits are twofold, firstly they obviously attract more traffic to your website via the website on which the link is placed and secondly good quality links can increase your ranking on search engines.

Some search engines consider too many links suspicious practice so it is generally recommended to rather have less links but keep them relevant and of a high quality. There are two main types of links, inbound and outbound and both of these have an impact on your ranking.

Many link affiliates have reward programs for successful business as a result of the traffic coming from your site so it is important to negotiate with partners for the best possible deal that will be mutually beneficial.

Searching for affiliates

Recently affiliate linking became a more recognised SEO technique and the value of having popular and high quality links to your website became more evident as the websites that practiced this marketing method returned better page rankings. There are now many networks that bring merchants and affiliates together as well as software programs and consultant offering expertise.

Another common technique for searching for affiliates is to use the main search engines to find them. Use phrases like “Suggest site” or “Add link” followed by your keyword in your search. Be aware the these searches are generally not very discriminative and you should carefully consider which of these websites you would like to add as affiliate partners.

Link affiliate programs

Finding high quality link affiliates and setting them up in an search engine optimized manner is considered a speciality field and there is currently a lot of software programs that can assist you with this task. When considering websites for affiliate partners you should also establish if they are making use of any link affiliate programs. Finding websites that use this software will confirm that they are a potential link affiliate.

There are great programs available that can help you find relevant affiliates.  It is important to realize that finding potential affiliates are only the first step of a longer process. Setting up and managing these links are a very time consuming task. One of the more challenging aspects is convincing the affiliates to market your product on their website. Fortunately any good SEO consultant should be able to assist with both the recruitment of links as well as the setting up and management of these links.

Study the affiliates websites

Because the affiliates websites will effect your own ranking it is very important to look at the ranking of your affiliates on most major search engines. Visit the websites of your affiliates and make sure that the content is original and relevant. Inbound links will have a bigger effect on your rankings, so be stricter with these.

  2. I think there needs to be a word of caution here.

I am an expert at getting traffic to websites but hopless at monetarising them. I have a website called whythink.co.uk. It is visited by about 4500 users a day and had a page rank of 4.

After adding four affiliates, (couple of links a page) all internet household names the page rank slipped to PR1 and the traffic to 2200 per day.

I am going to strip out these affiliates and I know that the PR will increase and hence natural search traffic.

There is obviously a system of adding affliate links that I have not mastered?
