Link building or link acquisition is the hottest topic in Search Engine Optimization, because for most web pages it is the one factor that will have the greatest influence on how well they perform in the search engine rankings. A web page that has a lot of Good Quality Links will typically outperform those sites that have very few or low quality links. As such, finding techniques to improve a link profile should be one of your biggest SEO concerns.

What Search Engines Want

When building Search Engine Optimization links it is important to consider the search engines themselves and what they are looking for because this can help to identify legitimate and effective ways to improve your link profile. At the most basic level, search engines like Google are looking for natural links that have been awarded on merit because you offer high quality content. These organic links are the ultimate display of the benefit of your website but can also prove incredibly difficult to come by, especially when your site is brand new.

What Webmasters Want

Providing high quality Search Engine Optimization content on your pages will eventually attract links. Other website owners will visit your site, see quality content that would benefit their own visitors and link to that content. Blogs, forums, portals, and general websites link out to other websites in order to help them explain a topic more clearly and to help them provide a greater level of information regarding the topic their site is based on. Through the provision of good quality content, therefore, you can eventually build organic links to your pages.

Organic Links With No Traffic

Initially, however, when a website has very little or no traffic it’s fair to assume that other webmasters and website owners are not viewing your pages and are consequently not able to see how high quality your Search Engine Optimization content is. They need a little encouragement to visit your site in the first place and while other marketing methods can help do this, search engines do appreciate that your pages need traffic and they realise that websites use less organic methods of building links.

Paying For Text Links

Acts like paying for text links are considered to be bad building techniques particularly in the eyes of Google. If they determine that a link has been paid for they also determine that the link was not given based on the quality of your web page and they will give that link much less weight, often ignoring it when building your link profile and calculating the score your website achieves.

SEO Link Building

Article marketing, Social Media Marketing, and the age old technique of requesting links from other sites do still have some value but you will find varied degrees of success with each method. Gaining links through emailed requests has become much more difficult with most websites opting to find pages to link to that contains very specific information. Article marketing, when done well, can produce some good links but many marketers get carried away with the number of directories they submit to devaluing the links they receive. Choose your SEO link building techniques well and use a varied range of methods to build high quality SEO links for your website.
