Why One Link May Be Better Than Ten

Link building is an integral facet of the art of SEO. Generating a steady stream of new links to your web pages will almost certainly help improve your SEO results because the search engines use them as an indicator of how popular your site is with visitors. However, not any link will do since the search engines consider the merit of each link individually and determine whether it is relevant and whether it is a good quality link. They consider many factors including keyword use, link placement, page relevance, and even the number of outbound links on the linking page.

Search Engine Results

Search engines are rigorous in their calculations. In a bid to provide their own users with high quality search results they not only work on improving indexing capabilities and determining relevancy of pages but they put a lot of effort into trying to ensure that they only display the most beneficial sites in their results. Links are only one part of SEO but they are one major part and should be considered one of the most important aspects of any SEO campaign.

Perceived Link Quality

Search engine algorithms, therefore, are used to determine the value of a link. Links from authority sites that are based on the same topic as your own are considered the most valuable of links in an SEO campaign. As a happy side effect, these links will often also provide their own traffic to your site and that traffic will be motivated and targeted. Again, though, the search engines consider more than whether a link is from a relevant authority site.

What Search Engines Look For

When determining the value of a link search engines consider many factors. They initially look at the anchor text of a link in order to help identify the keyword or keywords of a site. Trying to gain some semblance of control over the actual code used to create your links can make your SEO campaign a much greater success. If you rely on organically built natural links then offer your own HTML code that includes optimised anchor text.

The search engines also look at how prominent a link is on the linking page. The more prominent, the greater the perceived value of that link. The number of outbound links on a page is also considered. The more links on a page the less value each one receives and if there are too many links then this may not be considered a good link at all by the search engines regardless of the many other factors.

High Quality Links For Your SEO Campaign

Links, like all components of an SEO campaign, are heavily monitored and calculated by the search engines. The better the quality and relevance of a link, and the more authoritative the link site is considered, the more benefit that link is likely to prove to your SEO. Concentrating on getting a smaller number of very high quality links is likely to prove more fruitful than getting hundreds or thousands of virtually useless, low quality links.

It’s not necessary that your website has bunch of link on every page; less links will also work if they are quality rich and relevant site’s theme.
