Consequences of a Slow Loading Website for SEO

It is common for online users to try to find as much information as possible in the shortest amount of time possible carrying out a search on the internet. This is why it is so vital that search engines are able to provide users with relevant and useful search results. If users do not find what they are looking for quickly, they will simply move on and look somewhere else. There is so much choice on the internet that online users do not have to tolerate a poor service.

Getting the attention of targeted visitors and potential customers is one of the major challenges a business faces and is why search engine optimisation is so crucial to so many businesses. However, it is simply not enough to get users to click into your website; you must then impress them with every aspect of your website if you are going to make a sale.

The first way you can please visitors to your website is by providing them with web pages that load quickly and efficiently. If your website takes a considerable amount of time to load, users will get bored and will leave, possibly without viewing any of your content. Whilst many internet users now have broadband connections some do not and speeds can still vary greatly. If your website loads slowly for a user with a quick broadband connection then the length of loading time for a user with a less efficient connection must be imagined. The loading time of a website is a highly significant issue to consider because having a website that loads not as quickly as the websites of your main competitors may have a damaging effect on your business.

The first obvious disadvantage of having a website that loads slowly is the loss of sales. If users leave the website before it has fully loaded then that is a huge waste of potential customers. This means that a potential customer that you have successfully attracted by working hard to achieve high rankings, is lost simply because of the loading time.

Another way in which a slow loading time can negatively affect your business is with the rankings your website is able to achieve in the search results. Search engines want searchers to use them again and again and so the quality of their search experience is highly important. Providing them with relevant and useful information quickly and efficiently is therefore necessary and if your website takes longer than others to load, it is likely that it will be ranked lower than others that don’t. Search engines strive to offer users the best service possible and providing them with websites which take ages to load is not part of a high quality service.

In most cases, the reason why a website is taking a long period of time to load can be easily resolved. We at SEO Consult can assist you with all aspects of your website and SEO methods so that your website is ranked highly in the search results and so that visitors to your website will find it useful.
