How Online Press Releases Can Help SEO Campaigns

Many businesses may think that their SEO extends just as far as their website. But it doesn’t have to end there – nor should it. One often overlooked option for SEO is the Online Press Release. And yet a successful online press release can be a real boost for your SEO campaign. Not only will it enable you to reach a wide audience in just a few seconds (generating more traffic to your site) it can also improve your search engine ranking.

Why use a press release

A press release is a great way to get exposure for your business and its product or services. A good press release will be written with several audiences in mind – from the journalist looking for a story to customers looking for a product or service. It should cover interesting news about your business, your website or events within the industry.

An online press release will do more than just give you publicity and raise brand awareness. It can also provide off-page search engines optimisation. A successful press release with pertinent links to your website will not only generate publicity, it will also Increase Traffic to your site and it will give you authoritative inbound links.

Quick effective distribution

Although the content for an online press release is generally the same as for a normal one, their distribution methods are very different. Online distributions take advantage of the speed of the internet to distribute a press release to thousands of journalists and news gatherer – in just a few seconds. Of course with either form you need to make sure that your press release is well targeted at relevant journalists/news sites and that it is genuinely newsworthy.

The value of links

If the story is picked up by a newspaper or news site it will create links back to your website. Each time another website uses your press release a new link to your website is created. These Inbound Links are one of the many things search engines use as part of their ranking formula. The more your online press release is picked up by news networks and journalists the higher your website’s ranking should go. If these links come from an authoritative source (such as Google News) they can boost your page ranking even further.
Online news

More and more people are using the internet as a news source these days. Using an online press release means that you will be better placed to reach this audience quickly. A good distribution service may be able to get your release on one of the popular news sites, such as Google, Yahoo or MSN. As you would expect, this can dramatically increase the traffic to your website along with developing the all important links to your website.

Information gathering

An added bonus of an online press release is that your distributor can gather data about the press campaign which you can use to establish what works best for your business. For example, you can find out about who is reading your release, where they are from and the exact number of external links established – all useful information for your SEO.

You are correct. At my old job, when press releases, identifying the website, were published in print and email, we saw a spike in web traffic.
