How can Link Baiting help your SEO Campaign?

Win-Win

Link baiting is about getting other, relevant, sites to link into the content on your site because they have elected to, not because you have asked them to, or cajoled them into it. Links are notoriously hard to get, and often are of the link back type which does you no favours in some search engines. But if you bait your content, cast your link bait line, sit back and wait, you receive results.

Link baiting is currently a new word in the world of SEO. IT can also be referred to as a natural way to build links. Link baiting attracts a lot of visitors and how it does this is about creating something on your site which attracts ‘back links’ for your benefit. It does this by getting people to talk about it, discussing it on their blogs or forums for instance, and then linking it from their site.

Link baiting creates more links to your site, the best about it is that these links come naturally to you, no begging needed. Link bating sends you more potential customers, in order words; it reaches more people which is the whole purpose of SEO.

Why does it matter to you?

Link baiting is any item you can create with the specific purpose of getting people to link to it. Link baiting can be created anywhere on the web, on a web page, on a blog site, a social bookmark page, e-zine or newsletter, email or any other method that is capable of telling people about your bait and getting them interested in it.

Link baiting belongs in the here and now; it is a very valuable SEO tool to use if you want to be as competitive as possible in search engine optimization.

The Bait

Link baiting, or the bait, works best when the subject matter hooks into one, or all of the following categories and for any link bait to be successful; a link baiter must master them. These are news, contrary, attack, resource, humour and fear.

News, your site should be a reliable site for anyone seeking news. Readers will turn to you when they need to know what is happening in their community and around the world.

Contrary, is a little more difficult. This revolved around contradiction debates concerning things that been said or done by people in your field. Contrary can also be the hook that supplies bizarre information about people your audience know.

Attack is sometime linked to Contrary but takes it one step further by attacking competitors. This will definately get you noticed by its shock value alone, so be prepared, especially if the object of your interest is popular. Use with caution.

A resource hook is generally informational, not confrontational or dangerous. It is an offering of valuable information or data which has been condensed and presented from your perspective.

Humour doesn’t need a lot of explaining, everyone loves to laugh and humour doesn’t offend or alienate anyone. Humour entices crowds while still being a highly effective means in which to convey a message.

Fear is the strongest hook available. If you incite panic amongst your audience they will scatter in order to find a solution or further explanation.
