What Organic SEO Is, And What It Isn’t

Search engines tend to lean towards natural looking sites; those sites that have been designed, developed, and written for the visitor rather than for the spiders. The pages that they believe combine this natural appeal with appealing content are those that appear nearest to the top of their search engine rankings. The search results page is typically made up of a small block of paid or sponsored links at the top of the page followed by the natural or organic search results below those.

Search Result Page Positioning

Even though it is the paid listings that appear first on the search results page, most searchers are inclined to look for and click on the natural listings. With Google this is especially true because they have a reputation for displaying high quality sites in their rankings. As such, organic SEO typically has the aim of of reaching the top handful of sites on the first page. Any lower than this and you will receive very few clicks for your efforts.

Organic SEO Is Medium To Long Term

Organic SEO is a medium term marketing strategy. The process has sped up considerably in the last couple of years and there’s really no need to wait longer than a few days before your site is at least indexed. However, it can take weeks or even months with some keywords before your SEO starts to really repay you for your efforts.

Organic SEO Is A Sustained Effort

Once you start to generate organic SEO traffic you can continue to build on this performance by continuing your Search Engine Optimisation campaign. The sites below you will continue to build links if you do stop, and they will be looking for other ways to improve their own SEO results. If you stop, and the pages below you advance then you will only retain the coveted top spot for a short period of time.

Organic SEO Is Not A Get Traffic Quick Scheme Or Scam

Try as Google might it’s unlikely to ever do away with worthless search results completely. Unfortunately because of the nature of SEO and the fact that it can generate good traffic levels for very little outlay it is also one of the areas that attracts a lot of the schemes, tips, and tricks that can cause a short term blight on the front pages. There are many services selling these schemes and while some may offer short term value they will inevitably be spotted and subsequently removed from the index completely.

Reaping The Rewards Of Your SEO

Ethical SEO can generate incredible results with a very good return on investment. However, there are no short cuts to organic SEO success; you should expect a lead time of several weeks to months before you really start to generate traffic. In the meantime you may start to see long tail and niche keywords start to perform but the more generic and competitive keywords that you target will take longer.
