You need a highly skilled and experienced SEO company that is driven to give their clients only the best and have the track record to prove their results.
Spam techniques instead of SEO
Building back links for clients is a labour intensive and long term project for an optimiser. Ask questions about their link building habits and make sure they are ethical. Spamming blogs and forums to harvest as many back links as possible is not doing SEO. It is not linking quantity that counts, it is the highest possible value back links that count and should be cultivated.
Getting links through spam techniques or buying links is a very bad idea and if an SEO company does that for their clients, you should remove yourself fast. If an SEO company offers to provide you with unrealistic numbers of links, your alarm bells should ring. They get these links from their own association of websites and this is called link farming. The search engines will penalise websites who are guilty and in serious cases will ban those websites.

When a SEO company offers you directory submissions as their main service, it means they do not have the knowledge or experience to use intensive SEO techniques. Directory submissions should never be the mainstay of their SEO efforts for their clients. Everyone is doing directory submissions and if that is all they really offer, it would be a negative investment for you.
Choosing a competitive SEO company is a task that must be undertaken with care. The financial climate is tough and no business can afford to waste valuable resources on an SEO company that offer empty promises. Your business needs only the best SEO company to help you climb the ladder to first page of the SERPS.
