Meta Tags Your Visitor’s Window To Your Website

There’s a lot to be said for having your own business website. Inexpensive marketing to a global marketplace can really lift the results of a business and take even the smallest business to new heights of success. For the ecommerce website owner, SEO can help to generate targeted streams of traffic that they wouldn’t ordinarily be able to access. However, one area where websites and high street shops differ is the window shopper or passing impulse buyer.
Meta Tags And SEO
Very few search engines use meta based indexing any longer. While it was initially all the rage with Google and the rest, the optimisation of meta tags has become less significant to SEO than it once was. However, many search engines do still look for spam practices such as keyword stuffing and the use of irrelevant keywords. They also use meta tags to build their results pages and particularly use the description and title tags.
Using Meta Tags To Sell Your Site
Meta tags should still be thought of as being an integral part of SEO. By using a powerful title and compelling description you can help persuade searchers that your site is worth clicking. More a conversionary tool than a ranking tool nowadays, meta tags such as these still hold benefit to help you sell the benefits of your service or your products. There’s no need to cram or list keywords in these tags and doing so can put some searchers off.
Creative, Compelling, Conversionary
Your search engine listing should be treated as a small advertisement. You have a title and essentially two short lines of content, as well as your page URL in order to promote the benefits of clicking your link. It is good SEO practice in this respect to include the main keyword for a page, because these keywords are presented as bold in the search results giving your small ad extra prominence among a page of similar results.
Your Short Ad On Search Results Pages
There are no guarantees in SEO. Good SEO over a reasonable period of time can generate masses of targeted traffic but even featuring at the top of rankings may not be enough. To really gain the benefits of a good ranking you should ensure that your page listing that appears on the results page is set to convert search engine users into your visitors. By doing so you can enjoy a greater percentage of the potential traffic for any given keyword.
The Importance Of Meta Tags To SEO And Site Performance
Meta tags have less SEO significance in the ranking of your web page than they once did. While the spiders will look for instances of keyword spamming it is highly unlikely that they give any weight to the use of the keyword tag. However, all search engines use the title tag and some use the description tag when building their results page. For this reason, meta tags should still be considered an important part of an SEO campaign.
