Search Engine Optimization – Checking Link Anchor Keywords

One of the most intensive and long term aspects of an Search Engine Optimization campaign is link building. Developing and optimising a link profile to include more and more high quality links helps improve the popularity rating of a website in the eyes of the search engine algorithms. The majority of search engines also consider the keywords that are used in the anchor text to help ascertain the topic of a page and its relevance to each search. As such, tracking the keywords that are used in your links can help identify the positives and negatives of a link profile.

Monitoring Links

While it’s possible to closely monitor some links and ensure that they use the correct HTML code and offer the appropriate anchor text, this isn’t always an option. By providing appealing content for others to use and link to, you remove some of this control to a degree. Other websites won’t necessarily use the most beneficial of your keywords when they do link to your pages. Offering HTML code for links is not only a convenience for other Webmasters it gives you some degree of control back. Choosing appropriate page titles and URLs will also help matters.

Page Titles

Some Webmasters and blog owners will want to create their own links to your pages so that they more closely fit the content on their pages. In many cases, it can be very difficult to control these links. By adding a title that includes your most important keyword you make certain that at least a good proportion of links will use keywords in the anchor text.

Page Path URLs

Other Webmasters will provide direct links with no HTML code so that all that is displayed is the link. Using HTML URLs that include the page title as part of the path will ensure, at least to a degree, that these links also include one or more of your keywords. While the results won’t be as good they will be better than links pointing to your site using “click here” or just “here” as the anchor text.

Offer Linking Code

Offer linking code to interested parties. It’s quick and convenient if a page includes the HTML code to produce a link so that it can simply be copied and pasted to another page. Offer a couple of slightly different variations so that Webmasters have a good choice and can use a version that most closely fits with their content needs and how they will be using your link. The easier and more beneficial you can make the process, the more likely others will be to include a positive and beneficial link to your site.

Linking And Search Engine Optimization

Linking is always one of the more difficult aspects of an Search Engine Optimization campaign. It is important to find good links from relevant pages that include keywords in the anchor text they use. By doing so it’s possible to climb the search engine rankings and generate a greater level of search engine traffic. Help Webmasters help you by including keywords in your title and in your page URLs, and also by offering linking code.
