Are SEO Consultants – A Headache Or Help?

What does S.E.O. stand for? : Search Engine Optimization.

Consultant: a talking head who believes they have the answers to all one’s problems

Headache: stands for: a large pain in the butt

Help: stands for having a blank void because you haven’t got a clue

Seriously though………

A Well Tuned Website

In order to have a working website that is actually going to work, and get into people’s faces, a ’search engine’ such as GOOGLE is essential to make a website ‘POP’ or if one prefers, to gain momentum.

Crucial to add one’s site to a search engine’s listing, following which the search engine dispatches ’spiders’ who will intimately go through one’s site, indexing it and deciding in it’s infinite wisdom to place it either in a prominent position or relegated to the bottom of the pile (and it’s a big, big, big pile) where it will gather dust, cobwebs, netcockroaches and will never ever see the light of day. Unfortunately the whole Internet and websites within are totally dependent on search engines to a large degree.

SEO’s can indeed give excellent tips but also at the same time give information that can do the opposite (can one trust this consultant). Believing that if one has a million links on site will give maximum boost is not only impractical but in most cases impossible. If this was the case then 80% of websites will be totally useless.

A good quality site is one that when one arrives on index page (home page) or any page on site the download time is quick, has working links, is attractive enough to grab attention to and has what one is looking for without driving through flashing banners, nauseating pop-ups, moving graphics that have a tendency to make one dizzy and content that has absolutely NOTHING to do with what is in the Keywords and description.

Search Engines

To put it plainly yet confusing the hell out of – search engines use ’spiders’ or ‘Robots‘ (actually programs) that ‘crawl’ their way through the websites of the world taking a long, long time to complete a single run (6 weeks or more).

The bottom line is: minimal keywords separated by a comma with no spaces in between, to-the-point description that is short and sweet. Interesting to note some search engine ’spiders’ are programmed to NOT INDEX a site due to excessive keywords and over-long descriptions, broken links and too many errors in the code!

The Key

Read the SEO Consult Blog check it out by all means. Clue yourself up and remember these few words of immeasurable insight – LESS is MORE…………

• Keep site uncomplicated with neutral colours
• Quick download – check your seconds…..
• Minimal pop-ups, flashing banners and huge graphics (these annoy people – FACT)
• Organized tabled layout
• Keywords – not too many per page (get to the point)
• HEAD TAGS are important make them count
• Links must work
• No ERROR messages in code
• Do ‘clean up HTML’ regular
• Keep to a ‘theme’ throughout your site

Good Luck with that………been there and DONE THAT!!
