Geographical Targeting SEO
Targeting a specific geographical area for your SEO campaign can be beneficial for two reasons. Firstly it will lower costs, and secondly it will drive more targeted traffic. Please read on for more information on how it can benefit your web business.
Your costs will be lower with geographical targeting due to the simple fact that keywords with a location in are obviously easier to achieve, this is so because there is less sites competing for them and therefore less off page optimisation is required.
If your business is based in a specific area and only trades within certain boundaries of a city or county then competing for the generic singular term is essentially pointless. If you are looking for your computer to be repaired for example, you’re not likely to travel too far to look for a technician to fix it. So the term “computer repairs Liverpool” would be a much more ideal keyword as opposed to “computer repairs”.
From this you would achieve substantially less traffic but the traffic you did receive would be higher quality and more likely to convert.
You will also save time on getting to the top of the listings, for very competitive terms Google and the other engines is wary of new sites. They look for you to build up your authority through inbound linking and domain age before you even get close to the first page.
It will also save time on verifying the leads, as the ones you do receive via search queries will be in your locality.
Many people don’t think geographical keyword targeting is a worthwhile strategy, but from my experience, especially for new sites its certainly worth building up your age, PageRank and authority in this method instead of spending a fortune from the off for very little return.
