Is your website invisible in the SERPS?

Often website owners are perplexed as to the reason they do not show up in the search engine results pages. After all, they have built a good looking and functioning website and they have included everything they should have. Successful businesses have learned that having a website is not good enough. There is no guarantee that just having a website is going to bring you web traffic and an increase in profit through higher sales.

Unfortunately it often takes businesses quite a bit of time to realise that they must show up in the SERPS. If your potential customers cannot find you and the search engines cannot really see you, this will never happen. Once a business realise this, it is time to start fixing the problems. Unfortunately this is going to be costly, so it would have been better to do things right from the start.

They don’t know your name

Unless you are a giant corporation with a world known brand name, people who search for products and services will not know your company’s name. People who use search engines will search by product or service. They will only know your name once they have become customers. This is where research into the best possible keywords comes into the equation.

Remember, the keywords cannot be generic; you need keywords by which the searchers will be looking for what you have to offer. This includes demographics and location keywords.

Gorgeous but useless website

There is a huge difference between a web designer and a SEO consultant. If your website was created by a designer without an ounce of SEO experience, it will be useless. Optimisation has to be implemented from the minute your website is being created. Search engines do not care if you have a great looking website.

They need specifics to be able to index each of your web pages. SEs need optimised URL titles, excellent code and sufficient Meta tags that work. SEs want unique titles for each webpage that are keyword rich. SEs look for keyword rich content with value. SEs are blind to flash, they simply cannot see it and they conclude that you are presenting blank pages for them to crawl. Get rid of the flash and get functional and fully optimised web pages in its place.

Website value

Size may count, but value counts far higher. A ten page website with superior content that incorporates every possible SEO technique will rank far better than a thirty page website that is mediocre. It is true that search engines love lots and lots of web pages, but only if each of those web pages offer the targeted web traffic excellent value through unique content. Value also means getting high quality inbound links. But no one will link to your website if it is not to their own benefit.

They will only link to websites that offer visitors exactly what they are looking for. Their own reputation is too important to be seen linking to second-rate websites. If you are stuck being invisible to the SEs, it is time to start damage control by asking the help of an experienced search engine optimiser to switch on the light for your website.
