Working on from Rob’s blog earlier in the week, regarding search engine optimisation of a new website – I am going to write a blog about the areas you must consider when taking on an older website as a project. As an SEO Specialist we take into consderation a number of factors – and how old a website is one of those factors. I will be writing this blog to try and give you a better understanding of how much work goes into each individual proposal, on top of the new website checks
- Look into the age of a domain. This is done through checking all of the various sources of information, whois, the wayback machine, netcraft etc etc. It is through utilising this information we can see exactly what domain history you may have, which usually is a big positive – however a bad history is one of the worst things your SEO company can discover, similar in effect to a bad credit history!
- Look for anything done on a website currently and in the past. Google Bans really slow down the search engine listings – and so we always try and detect if there has ever been any problems in the past. If there has been a problem, working through these can drastically escalate the timescales it takes to get your website listed – as well as the costs. On occasion, and in certain industries we will reccommend a completely new domain to achieve listings down to their bad history
- Validation Errors:- whilst hese usually do not stop the web spiders – they will slow down the very limited time the search engine has dedicated to spidering your website. These errors cause usually have an effect – as the website does not build up authority
- Other On Page Issues:- We will always check to ensure what the differences are from your website, and our high quality standards. It is through this referencing we decide on the appropriate work which needs to take place on page and prepare the proposal for your website.
- Off Page:- This is another key advantage you have over a new website. You can usually work with a much more agressive off page optimisation stategy, whilst still being completely ethical and not worrying about having a Google Sandbox. This reduces the timescales of the process, usually by upto 6 months. Our analysis will check what the search engines pickup, as well as other areas from around the world.
I hope through reading this blog – you can find a few of the little errors your website may have, and if you want all of these fixing – please feel free to contact us for a seo propoal
