As everyone knows, search engine optimization is an important part of creating a successful website anywhere on the internet. Without the aid of optimization, you cannot hope to get ahead of the competition and grow your business. Everyone also knows that optimization is a vast, expansive topic and that it encompasses virtually every aspect of a website.
This means that linking is part of your optimization as well. Now, there are two types of links found on a website, internal links and external ones. Internal links are within your own website. This means that various pages within your website are linked to others within your website. External links are those connecting your website to other websites.
Now, external linking comes in normal linking and deep linking. Deep linking is when one website links directly to the specific webpage of another website instead of simply linking to the homepage. Normal linking simply deposits the visitors onto the home page and they have to find the information they want by themselves. So, let’s focus on internal linking and how it works for optimization.
Spreading the rank
Many people are aware of the value of external links for other websites with a better SERP ranking than yours. These websites pass some of their favourable ranking on to your website when they link to it. The same principle works with internal links. Just because your home page ranks extremely well in the SERPs does not mean your whole website ranks well. Each web page is ranked differently.
Thus, internal linking can help you increase the rank of certain pages within your own website. When you have a high ranking home page that is linked to a lower ranking 3rd page, the 3rd page’s rank is automatically lifted through the link with the homepage.
Where to place internal links
So, now that you need to put internal links into your business website, where do you put them all in? One of the best ideas for internal link placement for SEO is text links. These are links that look like text but they are visibly different. They can be words that are a different colour and underlined. The important thing is to make text links stand out so that your visitors know that a particular word in your copy is a link to another page of your website. Perhaps make these links keywords for a better effect.
Site Maps
Everyone needs a map to get around and your website needs one too. This is so that your visitors can find their way around your website with ease. If they have to struggle to find any of the information that you have on offer, they will simply go to your competitors. Using internal links in your sitemap is another handy trick. Through the two methods mentioned above, you can keep your number of internal links high without them looking too conspicuous. Internal links are important and help you add value and optimization to your website in order to get ahead of your competition.
