Search Engine Optimisation is a much misunderstood topic. As search engines constantly work to improve their algorithms and search criteria to produce the best and most relevant results for their users, Search Engine Optimisation has to evolve too and is almost unrecognisable from SEO a few years ago. Here are some top SEO myths that we often come across which need dispelling once and for all.
Website optimization is all about fooling search engines.
Good search engine optimization actually works with search engines rather than trying to deliberately mislead them. By choosing your keywords carefully and making sure that your website is easy to read both for your customers and for search engines, you ensure that you are targeting the correct visitors to your site, which is exactly what search engines want to do. Trying to fool search engines by using tactics like spamming with keywords or creating irrelevant link farms will result in the opposite of Website Optimization as search engines will penalise these sites. By making sure that your website represents itself accurately and clearly by the use of good all-round search engine optimization, you ensure that the search engines and your website are on the same team and both trying to achieve the same goal – more traffic on your site.
Once your page is ranking high in search engine results, website optimisation has been reached and you can forget about it.
There are some elements of search engine optimisation which you will possibly only have to do once e.g. choosing keywords or cleaning up the structure and code. However, there are many elements such as link building and content editing which are ongoing and without them your site is likely to slip down the search engine results pages again. A Good SEO Company doesn’t just give your website a quick search engine optimisation makeover and leave you to it, they monitor your results, offer recommendations and make adjustments after the initial website optimization has taken place.
Good search engine optimization means that you will get quick results.
Often, it can take weeks or months before you see any major results from your search engine optimization. It is a long-tern strategy because search engines like to rank websites they trust to be exactly what the user is looking for and it takes time for that trust to develop. Websites which are badly optimised may see better results in the very short term, but are likely to be Banned or Blacklisted from search engines quickly because the techniques used are considered spam. Ethical search engine optimization takes more time but can yield very fruitful results.
