Search engine optimization, is your key to a bright and prosperous future for your business website. White hat SEO that is, not the black or grey hat variety. Search engines are getting smarter and they are picking up SEO abuse when people try to cheat the system unfairly. However, that leaves you with the dilemma of getting your SEO right within the guidelines of white hat SEO practices so that you get noticed and not gain notoriety. When you are going through the SEO motions, it is important to follow five basic steps.

Analyse, research, keywords

When you are thinking about your website you need to do some digging. You need to find out what keywords and which keyword phrases your target market are using. You need to look at the keywords your competitors are using and what keywords your own customers will use. Keyword research is vital to your SEO success. The next bit of digging that you need to do is competition research.

You need to delve into the websites of your competitors. Competition may come from the most unlikely places. You need to look at other websites offering the same wares as you yes, but you need to do a lot more too. You need to look at what type of websites show up on the search results pages using the keywords you want to use.

This will give you a clear indication of who you are competing against. Make notes of their successes and pitfalls, note how, where and when they use their keywords. This competitive research will help you build a better website of your own. Then you need to get to work at including your chosen and well-researched keywords in your copy.

Linking and marketing

Inbound links to your website are vitally important for the success of your SEO efforts. Inbound links to your website from similar and top notch websites tells the search engines that your website is popular and that it is important. That is the part that you want. The more back links you have to your website, the better your ranking on the search results pages gets.

Marketing is also important as a part of your SEO. Promoting your website in online directories, in particular, is very important. It serves a multiple purpose. First, you get your name out there on the web, which is good for your business and to generate traffic. Secondly, you will create even more back links to your website. Those inbound links in turn increase your linking SEO efforts.

Conclusion

Web presence is very important for a business website to make it in the internet. Without a significant web presence and the right SEO tactics, you cannot expect to get anywhere. Your web presence is like networking face to face.

The more people you know and the more people who know about you and can connect with you, the better for you. Web presence means that your business name is on everyone’s lips. Traffic increases and sales percentages increase. Presence can only be increased through good SEO.
