SEO Goes Social

Marketers have been ‘going social’ for some time now, this is now not an experiment, it is reality. The amount of money companies and brands are investing into social network marketing is set to rise further again in 2010, and is fast becoming a heavily discussed topic in the SEO world. Only a small part of this spend is going into paid advertising within those social networks, such as banners, video and text ads, as well as the more targeted advertising being offered by the likes of Facebook, My Space, Twitter and lately Linkedin.

Although social network marketing is not technically an SEO technique, Social Media is becoming a more and more important factor in getting your website noticed.

Money spent on social networking marketing initiatives spring from a variety of budgets, including public relations, and growth is expected to be substantially higher than that predicted for paid social networking advertising in the coming years, as many agencies introduce this into their every day Search Engine Optimisation practices.

Fan pages are going to become a way of life for Businesses and Marketers, and it is also expected that in 2010 and even beyond, a substantial portion of marketing budgets will go to not only creating these pages, but maintaining these fan pages, and measuring the impact on brand strength and sales.

Write a great post and build meaningful relationships with your peers and you will soon find that friends, colleagues and new acquaintances, will submit your post and give you those all important votes on social bookmarking sites.

As with most voting systems in life, the more votes you receive, the more popular you are, and the more likely your post is to be picked up by others fired around the super highway, commonly resulting in additional back links from other blogs and forums.

So the message for Marketers for 2010 is to go social.
