Introduction

When advertising a website the SEO campaign is often one of the routes to success. However, the SEO campaign is a long process so results is through long term trial and error so take care to note that one must not expect immediate results and be impatient.

SEO requires patience and constant updating of website contents by researching keywords and information to add to the website to get a more informative website. After updating of the website, one of the most time consuming process is playing the waiting game with the search engines.

The Waiting Game

What is it that the advertiser is waiting for? Well, upon optimization of the website contents with relevant keywords and phrases on the advertisers’ site, one has to wait for the search engines to update the information on their side too. A few search engines can be monitored.

This is by waiting for search engines to index and update their index, spider the site and finally to see where the site will rank. Once the site has been updated in the search engine index and once it has been ranked, further optimization can be achieved by using more relevant or synonyms or related keywords in the website content or blogs.

Once this has been updated, the waiting game begins again by waiting for the search engine to index and rank the website. Thus the waiting game is played until a high page ranking is achieved where a profitable SEO becomes apparent. Generally, for semi-competitive markets results will only become signification in 6-9 months whilst competitive markets take longer - up to a year or more.

What Happens on the Search Engine Side?

Search Engines takes time building links. Links are the portals linking a page to another on the Internet and consequently make the World Wide Web go round. Link building requires search engine robots to find the new links and index the pages to which they are linked.

Link building is a slow process considering the number of pages updated in any instant and search engine robots update the links chronologically.
However, if the webpage is already in the search engine database the waiting is so that updated information on the webpage can be indexed and having the link show as a backlink in the search engine’s results page.

A backlink is a spiderable link, which is a text hyperlink that takes the user from one page to another. Useful backlinks are those that are relevant to the website contents. Backlinks may show variably in the search engines. Some search engines have limitations on which backlinks are being shown by picking up the most pages that links back to the original page. Backlinks can be found by using common search engines or via advanced search.
Finally, since link building is a time consuming process, content building for the site and the linking of sites must work along with SEO and link building for optimum search engine results.
